I’ve been thinking about what it means to watch something properly.

Most of what I’ve been exploring through HER PERSONAL CURRICULUM has lived digitally through writing and my quiet reflection. But there’s a limit to what can be experienced individually.

Some things shift when they’re shared.

So I’m hosting the first edition of something I’m calling THE VIEWING.

A small, intentional gathering centred around film, maybe books, perhaps a podcast episode we can’t stop talking about.

A shared presence.

Of noticing.

Of seeing differently.

For this first session, we’ll be watching a curated preview of BLK NWS: Terms & Conditions by Khalil Joseph. It’s a nonlinear, experimental film celebrating the creativity of the Black Diaspora and Africa that moves through archival footage, music, and fragmented narrative. Adapted from his renowned video art installation, the film mirrors the sonic textures of a record album and is divided into 21 “tracks“. This free screening of the film will take place in April and show the first 7 - 10 “tracks” of the film.

Considering Khalil’s career, the unique storytelling style of the film isn’t surprising.

He directed iconic videos for artists like Kendrick Lamar (”m.A.A.d.”), FKA twigs (”Video Girl”), and Beyoncé (”Sorry,” “Love Drought,” “All Night” from Lemonade), for which he received Emmy and Grammy nominations.

I have had this film on my watchlist as part of my 2026 media board and I welcome the opportunity to watch this with you.

This isn’t a large event. It’s a private screening in Lagos with 10 spots available.
